There are many things that can cause excessive hair loss. For example, stress, illnesses, certain medicines like blood thinners (also known as Anticoagulants), medicines for high blood pressure, gout,or heart problems, birth control pills and Antidepressants. Excessive intake of Vitamin A, hormonal problems - if your thyroid gland is overactive or underactive, if male or female hormones called Androgens and Estrogens are imbalanced. Some infections such as fungal infections of the scalp, an underlying diseaselike diabetes or lupus, scarring due to wearing pigtails, cornrows or using tight hair rollers as the pull on your hair causes a type of hair loss called traction alopecia which is permanent in nature. Hot oil hair treatments or chemicals used in permanents (also called "Perms") that may cause inflammation (swelling) of the hair follicle, permanent or male or female pattern Baldness called androgenetic alopecia and so on.
